Before joining RajTEK

Steven Kessler was born and raised in Belfast, Ireland to a family of law enforcers. It was a tradition that went back several generations. Steven was preparing to follow in their footsteps but his plans changed when the Fourth Singularity gave him his powers at the age of 15. He took great enjoyment in learning how to use his powers but felt the place he grew up in wasn’t enough. His family had worked its streets for years but with his powers, he could bring a new brand of Kessler justice. When he was old enough, he moved the United States and continued his work. Eventually becoming not just a police officer but a SWAT officer. Working out in the open as just another officer but behind closed doors worked as the hero, SWAT-Spider.

RajTEK and the Inhibitors

After the birth of his twins, Gabriel and Michael, Steven thought it’d be best to find a less life-threatening job. It was around this time that RajTEK was first growing and becoming a big name company. Seeing an opening, he joined as the Head of Security. Now, he had a more peaceful job. Despite this, his home life was less than ideal and he resumed working as SWAT-Spider at nights to avoid it. When he was discovered by Raja Eishner, he began working with him and Doctor Khonshu as a type of undercover agent. Using his SWAT-Spider persona to deal with rival companies attempt at stealing from them. For Steven, it was easy compared to his old job. When RajTEK went public about its Inversion roots, he was sent to aid the first batch of Inhibitors as a trainer despite his better judgment.

The training started off rocky but over time improved for the most part. While most of the team accepted him as their trainer he was constantly at odds with Mentalist, Fabiana Pererira, and the director of the Cell Sasha Boone. During their first mission to stop the Inversion codenamed Rage in England, he was betrayed by Mentalist and left for dead. Were it not for Guardian Aranea, she would’ve succeeded. Guided by impulse, Guardian Aranea took over Stevens body and tried to get revenge but was forced to flee by the Inhibitors. Stealing one of the VTOLs, he returns to New York.

Return to Silver Plains

Having escaped death, Steven successfully returns to RajTEK. Unsure of who to trust, he keeps his survival secret from all but his son Gabriel. With no leads and being benched by Raja, he restarts he crusade against crime as SWAT-Spider at night and attacks the Starlight Club. For a week his war against crimes goes smoothly. He finally returns to his job at RajTEK when he has to sit in on a meeting between Raja and the heads of Gunma Inc, Rowena Gunma, and head of Acel-Corp, Jason McKellen. During the meeting, Steven notices Jason’s wording that imply he was responsible for several attempts at stealing from RajTEK. That night he investigates Acel-Corp but comes face-to-face with a pyrokinetic Inversion. SWAT-Spider gets the upper hand but when she reveals having activated the silent alarm, he flees the scene. Several days later, he returns to investigate albeit through a different route.

Unfortunately for him, they were waiting for him and he’s knocked unconscious. Now at the mercy of the kingpin, Biohazard. With his identity compromised, SWAT-Spider is held captive for two days being constantly tortured by Forecast. Throughout the entire experience, he pushes himself to the limit and keeps Guardian Aranea active through it all. Unable to get information out of him, despite Guardian Aranea being reduced to only covering his arm and the helmet, Biohazard orders an attack against RajTEK. Leaving SWAT-Spider under the watch of the young Inversion Hornet. In less than an hour after the attack began, Biohazard returns to taunt him but only informs him of the attack’s failure. Beating him through the process until he falls unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in Saint Taliesin’s Hospital with Gabriel by his side.

After having a brief conversation with Gabriel, Steven is visited by Doctor Khonshu. The pair have a brief exchange with Doctor Khonshu stating he’d restart an old plan of his before leaving. When Gabriel returns, he comes with his Elle and Michael. While Elle is concerned for him she refuses to put up with the stress of being associated with him and plans to take custody of Gabriel. Steven defends that this was a freak accident nobody could’ve seen coming. To end the mounting tensions, Steven requests to just let Gabriel stay with him while he’s recovering and they can sort this matter out later. Feeling that all their emotions are high and his injuries too much to deal with all at once. His family leaves him to rest when one of Biohazard’s enforcers, Haze, appears through his illusions. He informs Steven that he’s willing to make a deal with him. Help him foil Pheromaster’s scheme in the near future and he’d erase the memory of Steven’s identity from any who knew it. Protecting him and his family in the process. Having no other choice, Steven agrees and finally rests.

The following day, Steven leaves the hospital to return home with Gabriel. There he comes clean about his past and identity as SWAT-Spider. Gabriel, in turn, informs his father of his identity as Jetstream and that he recently gained powers. After a sharing a story of a past adventure, Steven agrees to let Gabriel be a hero and would train him on three conditions. That they’d only train after school or on his days off, that he doesn’t leave school to go heroing, and to not do anything he couldn’t handle without him there to help.

Rise of the Pheromaster…

The next few days pass calmly until Steven is once more visited by Haze. Haze informs him that RajTEK is under attack and now is his best time to uphold his end of the bargain. With no choice, Steven agrees and travels to RajTEK. By the time he arrives he finds Doctor Khonshu and Raja at the mercy of none other than Haze, Forecast, and Sunspot as well as two new players named Orca & Shifter. SWAT-Spider weighs his options when he’s attacked by Crawler, an Inversion with a Chameleon Astral Manifestation like his own. SWAT-Spider does his best to combat the group alone but is unable to hold off Crawler and Shifter while Haze, Sunspot, and Forecast leave with Raja. Before he can succumb to the pair, he’s saved by the sudden arrival of Black Ice. Now freed from Crawler, it takes seconds for SWAT-Spider to both capture and interrogates Shifter. He discovers her boss was contacted by Biohazard to help capture Raja but that Haze knew all the finer details of the plan. With little time to spare, SWAT-Spider passes on Shifters offer to contact her boss for more details.

SWAT-Spider officially meets Black Ice but they don’t get to converse long before Doctor Khonshu is alerted to a VTOLs approach. The VTOL turns out to be Reflex, Chaos, and Miles who escaped Mentalists betrayal of the Inhibitors. Reflex tells them about the betrayal and SWAT-Spider shares his own bad news about Raja. Black Ice remains optimistic to which SWAT-Spider agrees. If they had wanted to kill Raja or the captured Director Boone, they would’ve done so on the spot. Thanks to Miles, they work out the most likely place they went was the Pathogen. With this information, SWAT-Spider takes the leadership position and begins coordinating the group. Ordering the Inhibitors to recover, Doctor Khonshu to locate the Pathogen, and both Miles & Black Ice to be on standby. Begrudgingly, SWAT-Spider calls Gabriel out of school so he can help in their rescue mission. Naturally, Reflex strongly opposes sending a child and is only bolstered when she discovers Jetstream is his son. SWAT-Spider admits he doesn’t want to do it either but right now it was the only way to make sure they save everyone who was captured. He asks Jetstream to run to the Cell and see if he locates Raja or the Inhibitors in the base but stresses he shouldn’t fight anyone. SWAT-Spider gives him one of the Khonshu Bands to make sure he found his way and could be kept in contact.

When Jetstream finally arrives at the Cell, SWAT-Spider instructs him on how to scan the hanger bay across its communicator. After Jetstream races off again and ends the transmission, SWAT-Spider is left to wait. Giving him time to finalize his plan. About halfway through Jetstreams journey to the Cell, Doctor Khonshu had located the Pathogen. Knowing how long it’d take to arrive, SWAT-Spider has them depart before Jetstream can complete his mission. After finally getting the call from Jetstream once more informing him of his failure to stop the Inhibitors, he can only express pride and concern. Now the rest of the mission rested in their hands.

SWAT-Spider leads the mission with Reflex and Chaos but it’s quickly apparent to him that they aren’t dealing with simple Mind Control. The team is easily imprisoned by Director Todd and upon meeting Pheromaster, it became clear to SWAT-Spider the situation was far muddier than originally believed. The taunting ends briefly when Pheromaster leaves to add Raja to his cell…he then begins monologuing. Discovering that Pheromaster was driven to this point by RajTEKs rapid growth forcing out any and all competition. That he spent years working without relying on his powers for RajTEK to swoop in while using his to do that exact thing. The pair’s forced to endure torture at the hands of Cinder until Haze orders him to stop to even Cinders confusion. Haze appears to SWAT-Spider as an illusion and informs him their deal is still on.

In about five minutes; Black Ice, Doctor Khonshu, and Jetstream arrive at the Pathogen and free SWAT-Spiders team. Together, they battle Pheromasters team and successfully defeat them. Freeing Titan from Fabiana’s mind control in the process. Afterwards, he discusses the fates of the Inhibitors alongside Reflex, Degree, Chaos, Titan, & Director Boone. Director Boone isn’t optimistic about their future and admits he was right about their shortcomings back when they first met. SWAT-Spider, however, is optimistic and suggests just starting over fresh. But Degree & Titan are in a grey area that needed dealing with. Neither could return to the Cell in the near future and Titan was an orphaned minor Inversion. Taking the initiative, SWAT-Spider offers to ask Raja if he can put Degree and Titan up in a hotel. Titan, still traumatized, is hesitant. Seeing this, SWAT-Spider suggests letting the young Inversion live with him. Being close to the Inhibitors but not tied to them, he could take care of Titan and still keep in contact with the team should they need it. The young Inversion accepts and SWAT-Spider tells Director Boone he can deal with Haze & Cinder should they resurface back in Silver Plains. All he asks is for a private meeting with Pheromaster.

With Pheromaster alone in an unguarded unmonitored portion of the Cell, SWAT-Spider vents his frustration on the would-be supervillain. Stabbing him in the right shoulder blade and left thigh with Araneas legs. When asked what he wants, he says they haven’t been introduced. That the first time they meet is a warning and the second time would be an execution. That he’s beaten far more threatening criminals alone and has been doing so since he was 15, even before joining SWAT at 21. If Pheromaster ever showed himself again or did anything to make SWAT-Spider return to see him, he’d make sure his execution was as painful as possible.

Upon returning to the rest of the group, he gets some information on how to take care of Titan. He properly introduces Titan & Degree as Wendell & Raina respectively to his allies. Saying he offered to have Raja put Raina in a hotel to his annoyance. When he brings up taking in Wendell, only Black Ice and Jetstream seemed confused at the decision. He reassures Jetstream it’d be like having a big brother and gives Black Ice a phone number. That way if anything really bad happened, Black Ice would have someone he could turn to…
